The cyber fraudsters are using the situation with the spread of coronavirus to attempts of theft of money from Bank accounts

The Bank of Russia fixes a new fraudulent scheme to steal money from Bank accounts using social engineering methods. Thus criminals are actively using the theme of coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Scammers are calling citizens, promising delays in the payment of loans, various kinds of compensation, allowances, refunds for airline tickets, services for the diagnosis of infection coronavirus infection, volunteering. Everything eventually boils down to what the person needs under one pretext or another to inform their card details, password from the TEXT message or to make a payment on a bill.

Criminals send out emails with links to phishing sites. To lure citizens credit cards and convince the person to open the attachment or click links to infected sites, they often forge brand and corporate style of well-known organizations (Ministry of health, Rospotrebnadzor, the Bank of Russia, world health organization, and others). Bursts similar attacks are recorded in other States.

The Bank of Russia recommends not to tell strangers not to enter unknown websites your Bank card information, passwords SMS messages, under whatever pretext this data tried to learn.

“We do not exclude that the virus can be used by hackers throughout the pandemic, it does not exclude the emergence of new methods of introduction of citizens in error. We continue to monitor the situation and are in constant contact with banks and other financial institutions” — said the Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia Dmitry Skobelkin.
