The number of investors in the stock market in the first quarter rose amid volatility

The number of clients for brokerage services and trust management (DU) has increased in the first quarter of 2020 by 18%, to 5 million persons and 14% to 390 thousand persons, respectively. The increase in the number of investors occurred against the backdrop of falling prices of financial assets because of the pandemic, and lower rates on deposits. Investors bought depreciating assets, expecting a fast recovery that softened the recession and helped stabilize the market. This is stated in the Review of key indicators of professional participants of the securities market for the first quarter of 2020. The bulk of customers are still attracted by the banks.

Amid growing number of investors average size of individual investment accounts (IMS) in I quarter has decreased on brokerage services from banks — from 63 to 57 thousand rubles, the brokers, non-Bank financial institutions — from 215 to 202 thousand rubles, and Trustees — from 301 to 285 thousand rubles. The volume of portfolios in the framework of standard policies do for the quarter increased by 11% to 259 billion rubles, and the average portfolio size decreased from 0.9 to 0.8 million rubles.

The main increase in the number of customers occurred in the standard IMS strategies, investing in Russian bonds.
